about

This was fun. I decided to start using drum machines more like an independent instrument in their own right (meaning I'd treat a drum machine as another mic'ed drum, like a snare, or kick) and playing around with the sequencers. Then I got this awesome snare sound. I figured out how to describe it: I want my snares to sound like a basketball hitting the backboard in an empty arena. Here's how to get it: Pan the snare itself slightly to the left or right. Pan a 30 ms delay to the opposite side. Then use a gated chamber reverb with a short decay. That gives it the 80's sound. Then pass all of that through a hall verb with a longer decay. DAT FM SLAP BASS.

Also, what I intended to be a solo ended up becoming part of the lead melody, that's why it repeats so often.
